Deeloochia: Art by Dee Mirkin
Bio
My name is Dee Mirkin and I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. I graduated from Georgia State University in 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Studio Art where I studied drawing, painting, photography, 3D design, ceramics, textiles, sculpture, printmaking, and more.
Between classes, I started designing gourd lamps in my parent’s garage and quickly built a loyal following at regional art festivals, online, and through consignment in retail stores. Plans to expand the gourd lamp business shifted in 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic settled in, and I began experimenting with watercolor and gouache. An avid hiker, I spent several months backpacking on the Appalachian Trail in 2021 and 2022 (1,700 miles), expanding my subject repertoire to include architecture, nature, and pets, with the help of a small Winsor & Newton watercolor travel set.

I now primarily do watercolor and gouache paintings, however I’m actively expanding into the world of murals and always experimenting with new mediums.

I have always been interested in making art with high levels of detail. I view art-making as a therapeutic, mindful practice, and enjoy putting my entire energy into the present moment that is making a work of art. I believe making works with high levels of detail facilitates ultimate mental presence in the current moment. The more detailed the work, the more present and mindful I feel, which in this day and age of screens and distractions, feels not only relieving and calming, but essential to my peace of mind. In the same vein, I also enjoy creating works that incorporate elements of pattern and symmetry, because adhering to the organic geometry of nature feels soothing for the soul.
At this time I'm accepting commissions. Feel free to contact me for more info.
